Drug coverage cancellation affects more than 250 in Onondaga County

More than 250 Medicare Part D enrollees in Onondaga County are weighing their options after federal regulators cancelled their prescription drug coverage through a New York City-based insurance company.

Medicare Part D is the prescription drug benefit available through Medicare.


Paterson pushes cap on property taxes, state spending

Gov. David Paterson today pushed again for a cap on both state spending and the amount of funding local governments can seek through property taxes.
He initially proposed the ideas in 2009.

Syracuse firm acquires Geneva packaging company

A local company has acquired the assets of a Geneva-based packaging firm.

The local company, Syracuse-based Lauraville Packaging, LLC, is a newly formed subsidiary of Quarry Road Holdings, LLC, also of Syracuse. The new subsidiary acquired the assets of Lauraville Specialty Products, LLC of Geneva.


Sherrill Manufacturing to close plant

Just a week shy of its fifth anniversary, Sherrill Manufacturing, Inc. announced it will shutter most of its flatware manufacturing operations at its East Seneca Street plant in May.

The move will cost 80 of the company's 100 workers their jobs.


Maffei to support health-care bill

U.S. Rep. Daniel Maffei (D-DeWitt) plans to support the current proposal for health-care reform in the House of Representatives.
Maffei announced his support for the plan today at the DeWitt office of the American Cancer Society.
