The New York state government hauled in $8.6 billion in tax collections in April, up 25.2 percent from the year-ago period. Collections were also almost $86 million higher than projections from the state’s enacted budget, mainly because of growth in personal income-tax (PIT) collections that likely won’t last, according to a report issued today by New York Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

In New York state, 19,122 people filed for new unemployment-insurance benefits in the week ending May 11, up from the year-to-date low of 18,627 claims filed the week before, according to U.S. Labor Department data issued Thursday.

New York realtors’ completed sales of existing single-family homes, townhomes, and condos rose 8.5 percent in April compared to the year-ago period, while the median price and pending sales rose 10 percent and 19 percent, respectively.

That’s according to data the New York State Association of Realtors (NYSAR) released on Wednesday.
