Young environmental firm generates growth

SALINA — In business less than two years, Environmental Contracting & Construction Services, LLC (ECCS) in Salina has already more than doubled its work force. And the company expects to grow revenue by about 40 percent this year.


NYSERDA awards funding for energy-storage projects

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) today awarded funding to Cornell University and Binghamton University for energy-storage projects.
The funding is part of $8 million NYSERDA awarded for 19 projects around the state. The projects could have applications in transportation, smart grids, renewable energy, and other areas, according to NYSERDA.

IDA bashes NYSEG parent for ceasing electrical upgrades

New York State Electric & Gas Corp. (NYSEG) is cutting plans for electrical upgrades to the former Seneca Army Depot in Romulus, according to a statement today from the Seneca County Industrial Development Agency (IDA).


OCC to offer new certificate program for utility workers

Onondaga Community College (OCC) and National Grid are teaming up on a new certificate program aimed at utility workers.

The state Education Department approved the new program in February. The one-year course provides hands-on training for line workers at a time when the industry is facing a shortage of qualified workers, according to National Grid.


NYSERDA awards grants for local energy projects

St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center, Onondaga County, and the State University of New York Cortland (SUNY Cortland) are among several organizations awarded state funding for energy conservation projects.

The cities of Binghamton and Elmira and Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira also received funding.
